Despite some heavy setbacks this year, Netflix still has more weight of influence than most.
Looking back over the last 12 months, Netflix has had one hell of a 2022.
Since we are coming to the end of the year, we’re taking stock of some of the biggest stories of the year, and for this piece, we’ve focused solely on the movies and TV stories of the year.
Below are the 10 biggest movies and TV stories on JOE.ie in 2022, and out of those 10, five of them are Netflix-related. Out of the top five, four of them are Netflix stories.
In the same year that Netflix announced a major price hike for all Irish customers, and reportedly lost many, MANY of its subscribers, its popularity seems to have barely diminished at all.

10. Spielberg’s follow-up to Band Of Brothers has an incredibly strong Irish connection
This will be a must-watch for fans of Saving Private Ryan and The Pacific. Starring Barry Keoghan, Fionn O’Shea (Normal People) and Anthony Boyle (Derry Girls), as well as Austin Butler (Elvis) and Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts). The epic new war series is rumored to arrive on Apple TV+ some time in 2023.

Back when this was first announced, we imagined this movie would get A LOT of people talking. One of the hottest young starts in the world, working with one of the most interesting directors in Hollywood, adapting one of the most controversial “biographies” of the decade, AND Netflix was aiming for adults-only with the finished product.
When the film did finally arrive, it felt as if all interest in it immediately evaporated, but that anticipation ahead of its release was on another level.
