Since there is no proof of native mammalian fauna on Cyprus, the inhabitants of this Neolithic village more than likely brought the cat and other wild mammals to the island from the Middle Eastern mainland. Humans typically maintain pets for the pleasure the pets give to their owners, and this pleasure could be mutual. Pet keeping can thus be described as a symbiotic relationship, benefitting each animals and human beings.
