“I Saw A Beautiful Woman”

Dylan Mulvaney shared how she deals with anti-trans comments that misgender her.

The TikToker, famed for her series “Days of Girlhood,” has recently hit a number of high-profile events — including this year’s Grammys. In a post dedicated to the event on her Instagram, she poked fun at her invite (which was apparently on behalf of Meta), writing, “What’s SHE doing there?!”

Dylan explained to People, “I felt so beautiful that day in Christian Siriano, Brad Goreski dressed me, I had my makeup by this fabulous trans artist, Laurel Charleston. On my Instagram page, there’s still people commenting, ‘You’re a man , you’re a guy.'”

However, Dylan was able to take it in stride. “I started laughing because I was then looking at that same picture, and I saw a beautiful woman who was me,” they continued. “It almost felt silly that they would write something like that.”

“I’m just so happy that I’m getting to a place where that doesn’t affect me quite as much, because it’s not actually productive. If I am to live in those feelings, I can’t be that ‘it girl ‘ that you just call me,” she added.

However, Dylan has also founded TikTok as a place to learn from the trans community. “I’ve had a lot of other TikTokers on trans-TikTok making videos addressing me or talking about me,” she said elsewhere in the interview. “Those are the ones that really have helped me learn and grow because it’s actually very helpful to hear from the community I’m a part of what they need from me and my platform, and also acknowledging when I am doing something good.”

Dylan also made the news the night of the Grammys for her interaction with Laverne Cox — where Laverne gave Dylan the sage advice to “Make sure [to] keep things to yourself. Everything cannot be for the public.”
